Confined to their homes, more and more people are trying to bring a sense of normalcy back into their lives by going digital, and photographers are no exception. That’s why on April 9th, a Concordia fine arts student and a water-sports enthusiast, Jeremy Lachance, is bringing people closer to the sea by holding a virtual surf exhibition.

To Bring You Closer The The Sea will showcase works of ten surf photographers from across the globe, each with their unique style and story, as well as cater to a wide array of viewers. For example, the fans of unconventional materials and techniques will find the work of Joseph Arnd especially interesting, as it is mostly shot on expired film resulting in distortions that leave lasting impressions. If you would like to learn more about the photographers or review their Instagrams, their names are: Fred Leblanc, Sam Billington, Christian Baba, Jeremy Lachance, Fred Lachance, Mathieu Harvey, Joseph Arndt, Vania Francesca, Andreas Tsam, Aly Amber and Matteo Crawford.

Despite a great variety of artists, the commonality among most of the photographs presented in this exhibition is the camera in question. It is the first underwater camera, the infamous Nikonos, used to shoot the covers of many old school surf magazines. This remarkable manual camera is not only much smaller than it's digital counterparts but comes back to life after taking a dip, as long as you let it bask in the sun long enough.
